The Importance of the 12 B vitamin Vitamin 12 B commonly referred to as Cobalamin is considered by many to be a crucial vitamin that is essential in helping to maintain a healthy body. It derives its importance from its ability to help with the vital process of converting fats, proteins and carbohydrates that we receive from our food into energy. Another significant contribution of this vitamin is its ability to keep our red blood cells healthy which improves our immune systems capability to ward off illness and infections and more importantly it also helps to prevent heart disease. The 12 B vitamin undertakes the mission of forming healthy red blood cells very seriously but in reality all cells need the 12 B vitamin to stay healthy. In particular the white blood cells are especially dependant on the 12 B vitamin to ensure that the immune system functions at optimal levels. Interestingly enough all of the nerve cells in our bodies also rely on the 12 B vitamin to form their fatty layer of protection. Although important for all of the nerves running through our body, the nerves in the brain are extremely sensitive to this need. Without a sufficient amount of 12 B the brain is unable to function properly. You would think that with the amount of importance placed on this vitamin it would be needed in large quantities but actually that's not the case. It turns out this nutrient is actually only needed in a small amount but it is however needed on a regular basis. Since it can be readily found in fish, eggs and meat we normally consume more then is needed, Fortunately our bodies have a way to recycle the leftover 12 B vitamin after we have absorbed the amount of this mineral that we need to function at a healthy level on a daily basis.
